DigiFonds Noord
DigiFonds Noord provides funding to local projects for IT education and science, with the goal of strengthening the IT sector and academic education in the northern part of the Netherlands.
Projects
Each year, the fund awards grants to small-scale projects in one of the following areas:
1: Activities that actively engage high school students with IT education and science
2: Innovative course materials for teachers on new technologies, including blockchain, big data or artificial intelligence
3: Projects that inspire young people to explore the IT sector
Background
DigiFonds Noord was preceded by GN-IX, or the Stichting Groningen Internet Exchange, a joint initiative by the UG, the NOM (Investment and Development Company for the Northern Netherlands) and the City of Groningen. Between 2001 and 2021, GN-IX worked to strengthen the digital infrastructure in the northern part of the Netherlands.
Committee
DigiFonds Noord's Committee includes entrepreneurs and business leaders, actively involved in the region, who provide their support on a voluntary basis.
The committee announces a new round of grants for project-based funding each year. The first initiatives will be starting in late 2022.
